Different versions of online roulette

free online rouletteThere are several different versions of online roulette and they are all equally exciting. The basic premise is the same for all of them and there is a wheel into which a ball is placed. The idea is to predict the outcome of where the ball will stop. This can involve successfully predicting the winning number or a number of different possible outcomes. There is a table by the wheel on to which you place chips to bet on an outcome.

European roulette

This is by far the most widely played game of online roulette in the world. The numbers 1 – 36 are on the wheel. Each one of them either red or black, and there is a green 0 which gives the house an edge. You can bet on individual numbers (including the 0) or a combination of numbers as well as outside bets, such as red or black; odd or even; or 1 – 18 or 19 – 36.

French roulette

For all intents and purposes the game of French roulette is identical to European roulette. The odds and bets are all the same, but the table is laid out in a slightly different way.  The various bets have French names instead of English names. A significant advantage with French roulette is the ‘la partage’ rule. This results in players receiving half of their stake back from an outside bet if the ball lands on zero. ‘En prison’ is a variation of this where the stake remains in place for the next bet – if it wins, you see the whole stake returned.

American roulette

american Online RouletteAmerican roulette is also the same as European roulette, but with one very distinct difference – the green 00. The presence of a 0 and a 00 (also called double zero) further increases the house edge on all bets and it is possible to bet on both 0 or 00 if you wish.

Other online roulette games

Online roulette is primarily a video game version of the casino classic. Thus, there is the potential to do different things with the game that might not be possible in a real casino. There are themed games, such as Monopoly. They give the online roulette game a more exciting dimension. There are also multi-wheel games which enable you to bet on several wheels at once. And even multi-ball versions where several balls are dropped into the same wheel, creating more winning potential.

In most games of online roulette, the odds of winning on a single number bet are 35/1 and outside bets such as red or black; odd or even; or 1 – 18 or 19 – 36 are 1/1. There are also dozen bets (1 – 12, 13 – 24, 25 – 36) which pay out at odds of 2/1.

How to win at online roulette

In order to have a better chance of winning when you play free online roulette, you should consider the type of bet you make. For example, the odds of 35/1 on a single number bet might seem incredibly tempting, but you will lose on a number in 34 out of 35 sins statistically. It is better to bet on a group of numbers or favour the outside bets. Odds are a lot lower, but the chances of winning more regularly are much higher.

Dealers signature

If you play online roulette against a real live dealer, you can look out for a dealer signature. On the screen you will see the results of at least the previous 10 spins and you might spot a pattern. Look at the wheel and see where the winning numbers are. It’s possible the same number has come out more than once.

Or that a particular area of the wheel is favoured. This could be because the dealer has a distinctive signature – cause by releasing the ball the same way every time. This can work to your advantage. If you spot a dealer signature, you should bet on numbers in the area of the wheel that the signature favours.

Doubling up

Another simpler way to improve your winnings is by using the doubling up method. This works best on outside bets with odds of 1/1. Say, for instance, that you choose to back red. You should start with a base stake of, for example, £5. If you lose, you double your original stake. If you win, you start again with a new £5 bet.

Continue to double up (£5, £10, £20, £40, etc.) until you win and then always drop back down to your original stake. This will net you £5 every time you do it. The only drawback to this is online roulette table limits.

Doubling up can lead to you playing for hundreds of pounds after just a few losses and not every table permits such high stakes bets to be placed. Always check the limit at a table before you bet using this strategy.
